Marine Service Technician

Overview

Action Water Sports is looking to fill the position of Boat Service Technician at our Fenton location. Our Fenton location services the East side of Michigan and carries premier brands such as MasterCraft Boats and Crest Pontoons. This is your chance to live out your water sports passion every day!

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic skills: Understand mechanical and electronically controlled systems and be able to efficiently diagnose faults.
  •  Mechanical skills: Correctly repair damage and malfunctions to manufacturer specifications
  •  Comprehend written work descriptions and coordinate with our service lead team to resolve customer concerns
  •  Communicate with customers in order to understand concerns and needs
  • Training: Learn from manufacturer and in house training and apply the skills taught
  • Identify boat system maintenance and repair needs for up-sell recommendations
  • Most work is done in our modern indoor shop, but some times we are called on to provide dockside service
  • Assist in other areas as needed
  • Work with the parts department in order to identify correct parts and to verify correct billing
  • Use shop equipment correctly for a safe and efficient work environment
  • Additionally, responsibilities include assisting with inventory management and parts sales for the multiple brands we represent

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to work safely around the water
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Basic boat handling skills preferred
  • Provide your own basic tools and tool storage

Dock & Lift Specialist

Action Water Sports is looking to fill the position of Dock & Lift Specialist at our Traverse City location. Our Traverse City location services the Northern Michigan boating community and carry premier brands such as MasterCraft Boats, Barletta Pontoons, and Cobalt Boats. **Starting pay based on experience** 

The Dock & Lift Specialist responsibilities include:  

  • High level customer service skills to assist in the delivery and pick up of dock & lift materials 
  • Highly organized with high-level inventory management skills 
  • General dock and lift operations including cleaning and assembly of dock and boat lifts 
  • Driving to and from multiple locations so a good driving record is a must 
  • Assist in other departments such as boat delivery and detailing 

Technical and Physical Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • Ability to work safely around the water 
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds 
  • Basic boat handling skills preferred 
  • Knowledge of dock construction and repair preferred

Boat Delivery Driver

Job Requirements:

  • Deliver (and return to storage) a wide variety of boats, motors & trailers to different addresses and routes
  • You must also possess the knowledge in loading boats from the lake at the launch
  • Positive attitude and willingness to please our customers
  • Acceptable driving record with no felonies or DUI’s
  • You must have basic boating knowledge as you will be required to help dock boats upon request
  • You must be punctual and have the ability to know when you are behind schedule so we can make phone calls to customers
  • Follow routes and time schedule
  • Complete the delivery checklist and work with the Sales team on any pre or post-delivery items noted

Proshop Team Leader

Action Water Sports is looking for a Proshop Team Leader to oversee our proshop team and watersports equipment sales. The proshop team leader will be responsible for crafting an energetic sales team ready to deliver excellent experiences at Action Water Sports.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assemble and motivate an enthusiastic proshop team, ready to give every customer a WOW experience.
  • Develop yourself and your team as an authority on all products through online training, relationships with industry reps, and continued quest for new information.
  • Develop yourself and your team as experts in sales through weekly meetings and training
  • Develop and maintain a keen eye for the customer experience in the proshop including, cleanliness, layout, stocking and promotions.
  • Work with the retail team to grow sales and optimize expenses and inventory levels.

 

Secondary Accountabilities

  • Maintain a positive working environment, consistent with the Action Water Sports culture.
  • Maintain a proper staffing schedule to adequately serve our customers, adjusting seasonally as necessary.
  • Be prepared to welcome and accommodate all customers. Making sure the store is opened and closed properly and we are staffed for greeting and reception at all times.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the proshop. Proshop manager will be the go-to person to keep every aspect of the showroom in tip-top condition. Expect to work and collaborate with other departments.
  • Work with the purchasing team to identify lost sales opportunity, stocking deficiencies and potential areas for new growth.
  • Be an advocate for all of our pro shop brands.

  • Never feel unsure of “gut-call”; Seek council after a time-sensitive decision to learn new methods and techniques to remove future doubt.

  • Perform final finish/detail on deliveries, in-stock and service boats, including cleaning windows, upholstery, canvas, isinglass, bilges, fiberglass and wood.
  • Use of high-speed buffers and polishers to properly detail the exterior surfaces
  • Removing dust, grease and oil from exterior surfaces of boats and trailers.
  • Knowledge of proper products for safe detailing of vessels including cleaners for various surfaces, degreasers, and waxes.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the dealership to ensure a professional work environment conducive to selling
  • Assist with the setup of boat shows and other off-site promotional events.
