Boat Detailer Job Description 

Action Water Sports is looking to fill the position of Boat Detailer at our award-winning Fenton location. Our Fenton location services the Metro Detroit boating community and carries premier brands such as MasterCraft Boats and Crest Pontoons. **Starting pay based on experience** 

Responsibilities Include: 

• Perform final finish/detail on deliveries, in-stock and service boats, including cleaning windows, upholstery, canvas, isinglass, bilges, fiberglass and wood. 

• Use of high-speed buffers and polishers to properly detail the exterior surfaces 

• Removing dust, grease and oil from exterior surfaces of boats and trailers. 

• Knowledge of proper products for safe detailing of vessels including cleaners for various surfaces, degreasers, and waxes. 

• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the dealership to ensure a professional work environment conducive to selling 

• Assist with the setup of boat shows and other off-site promotional events. 

Technical and Physical Requirements: 

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred 

• Ability to work safely around the water 

• Ability to lift 50 pounds 

• Basic boat handling skills preferred 

• Knowledge of dock construction and repair preferred 

• Knowledge of basic power tools preferred

• Diagnostic skills: Understand mechanical and electronically controlled systems and be able to efficiently diagnose faults.
•  Mechanical skills: Correctly repair damage and malfunctions to manufacturer specifications
•  Comprehend written work descriptions and coordinate with our service lead team to resolve customer concerns
•  Communicate with customers in order to understand concerns and needs
• Training: Learn from manufacturer and in house training and apply the skills taught
• Identify boat system maintenance and repair needs for up-sell recommendations
• Most work is done in our modern indoor shop, but some times we are called on to provide dockside service
• Assist in other areas as needed
• Work with the parts department in order to identify correct parts and to verify correct billing
• Use shop equipment correctly for a safe and efficient work environment
• Additionally, responsibilities include assisting with inventory management and parts sales for the multiple brands we represent

Technical and Physical Requirements

Position Summary  

The Human Resources Manager serves as a strategic partner to leadership and a trusted resource to employees across multiple dealership locations. This role is responsible for leading core HR functions including workforce planning, talent acquisition, payroll and benefits oversight, regulatory compliance, employee relations, and retirement plan administration.  

The HR Manager balances hands-on execution with strategic leadership, advising company leadership on organizational structure, staffing strategy, talent development, total rewards, and HR systems. This position plays a critical role in shaping employee experience, supporting business growth, and ensuring compliance with federal and state employment regulations.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

Include, but are not limited to:  

Planning & Talent Management  

• Partner with leadership to develop workforce planning strategies aligned with business objectives.  
• Advise leadership on organizational design, staffing needs, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.  
• Lead full-cycle talent acquisition efforts including recruitment strategy, candidate evaluation, and onboarding processes.  
• Oversee onboarding and offboarding programs to ensure consistent and positive employee experiences.  
• Support and evolve performance management processes, including annual reviews and goal alignment.  
• Monitor retention trends and recommend strategies to enhance engagement and workplace culture.  
• Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management, addressing workplace concerns and facilitating resolution when needed.  

Payroll & HR Operations  

• Oversee payroll processes across multiple dealership locations, ensuring accurate and timely processing in compliance with wage and hour laws.  
• Ensure proper administration of paid time off, leave programs (FMLA, ADA, ESTA), and other statutory requirements.  
• Maintain accurate employee records and data integrity within the HRIS system.  
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to HRIS, payroll systems, and operational processes to increase efficiency and scalability.  
• Ensure compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local employment regulations.  

Benefits & Total Rewards  

• Administer and oversee employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and related offerings.  
• Serve as the primary liaison with insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators.  
• Lead annual open enrollment and employee benefits communications.  
• Reconcile benefits invoices and ensure accurate payroll deductions.  
• Review and advise leadership on benefits offerings, market competitiveness, cost management strategies, and program evolution over time.

• Maintain Highly Compensated Employee tracking and ensure regulatory compliance.  
• Serve as liaison between the organization and retirement plan administrators.  

Workers’ Compensation & Risk Management  

• Support employees in initiating and managing workers’ compensation claims.  
• Coordinate with carriers and healthcare providers to ensure timely resolution and cost-effective outcomes.  
• Advise leadership on workplace safety trends and risk mitigation strategies.  

Organizational Leadership & Continuous Improvement  

• Provide guidance to leadership on HR best practices, compliance risk, and people-related strategy.  
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance employee experience, and improve operational efficiency.  
• Evaluate HR systems and technology platforms to support scalability and data-driven decision-making.  
• Support and promote company mission, values, and a positive workplace culture.  

Work Environment & Schedule  

• Full-time onsite position located in Hudsonville, Michigan.  
• Standard Monday–Friday work schedule.  
• Fast-paced dealership environment requiring independent initiative and collaborative teamwork.  

Qualifications  

Required  

• Minimum five (5) years of progressive human resources experience.  
• Demonstrated experience balancing strategic HR partnership with hands-on operational execution.  
• Experience overseeing payroll and benefits administration.  
• Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.  
• Experience using an HRIS platform (ADP preferred).  
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.  
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.  
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).  

Preferred  

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.  
• Experience administering 401(k) retirement plans.  
• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.  
• Knowledge of DOT driver file maintenance and licensing compliance.  
• Experience supporting multi-location operations.
