Sometimes water skiing contests can be a little…stuffy. So we’re breaking the mold and putting together Michigan’s first water ski “not-a-contest” contest. An event created to bring together serious slalom swervers alongside recreational weekend warriors. Combo skiers taking turns with trick skiers. Beginners paired up with pros. An opportunity to bring the entire water ski community together for an afternoon of fun, food and festivities, along with raising funds for a great cause. Shorts Brewing will be providing the suds, while The Trestle Stop will be satisfying your taste buds, and your admission fee will cover the cost of it all. Plus, we’ll have yard games and family activities spread throughout to keep the land dwellers entertained throughout the day. Scroll below to see all the contest details.

MEET MARK BOENDER
If you’ve even been slightly involved with the competitive water ski community, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Mark Boender. Between his infectious personality, confident demeanor and passion for the water skiing industry, he’s an individual that stands out as not only a leader, but humble servant to all who have met him. And it’s because of Mark that we’re kicking off the first annual Water Ski For A Cause event.
Since fall of 2017, Mark and his family have been battling a roller coaster of emotions. Numerous doctor visits along with a litany of tests eventually lead to Marks diagnoses of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. As a way to help combat the growing medical bills, all entry fees to the Water Ski For A Cause event will go directly to Mark and his family. Additionally, a GoFundMe campaign (linked below) has been started in Mark’s name as one more opportunity to donate. Beyond monetary needs, the Boender family has asked for your continued, bold prayers as they battle through this journey together.
THE CONTEST FORMAT
We will be pulling skiers of all ability levels from noon until 6pm, or until every skier has received their passes. Time slots are on a first come first serve basis. Each skier will get four passes—or two down and backs—with their entry fee, along with a commemorative t-shirt, mug and of course your fill of food and drink. Additionally, our panel of judges will be analyzing each pass made throughout the day, determining a winner in one of our three categories at the end of the day. If a skier would like additional passes, they can purchase them at a reduced rate of $20. All proceeds will be donated to the Boender family. We will collect your entry fee, and any additional passes you’d like to purchase, on location the day of the event. Please sign up below to help us better estimate the event turn out.
AWARD WINNING CATEGORIES
We're looking for some personal bests to be broken in order to go home with the Best Pass award.
Out the fronts, face plants, and belly smacks are all going to be critically examined to win this award.
This award will go to the skier who put themselves out there and laid it all on the line to turn a buoy.
